On 20.05.2014 and Agreement for subisidy no. POIG.01.04.00-02-273/13 was signed between the National Centre of Research and Development and Nokia Solutions and Networks Sp. z o.o. for the completion of a project entitled: “Preparing innovative functionalities of base station for mobile phone operators LTE/LTE-Advanced” as part of Operational Program Innovative Economy for years 2007-2013, Priority 1. Research and Development of new technologies, Activity 1.4: Support of targeted projects.

Nokia Solutions and Networks Sp. z o.o. is a company that is part of an international capital group Nokia Solutions and Networks (Nokia Group), a market leader of suppliers of services, hardware and software for creating and maintaining telecommunication networks for mobile phone operators. The company carries out research and development activities supported by own R&D centres (Wroclaw and Krakow) and obtained the status of research and development centre, and Nokia’s IT laboratories in Wroclaw are the biggest in Poland.

The Planned Project aims at carrying out industrial research and development work in the area of IT by the company between: 1.03.2014-30.09.2015. They are to lead to creating three innovations on a global scale for base stations in the area of LTE/LTE-Advanced technology and implement them to business within 3 years from Project completion. These functionalities are expected by the telecommunication market because they will enable a significant decrease of operational and investment costs of mobile phone operators.

LTE technology is sometimes called telephony 4G and recently it has undergone a significant and dynamic development, mainly thanks to the involvement of operators from the Asia Pacific area and North America. Currently it poses as the latest available standard in mobile telephony in the world and thanks to this Project Nokia Solutions and Networks in Poland will significantly stress its share in its development.

On September 4, 2015, an annex to the co-financing agreement was signed (annex no. POIG.01.04.00-02-273/13-01). The deadline for Project completion has been extended to November 30, 2015.
